Note from Sarah Park
Ben,
The years went by so fast, yet you’ve remained such a touchstone for me, and I suspect so many. I hope the Universe shows you how often I thought of you, wished well for you, admired you, and harkened you.
There’s so much Ben-ness that will stay with me forever. Your superhuman ability to turn off any noise and focus steadfastly on ideas. How you made yourself a student of the cultural past and present, and with this knowledge, so brilliantly and respectfully built ideas for an innovative future – profoundly shiny and new, yet always welcomingly human.
When we spoke, you'd hear me, you'd see me. I could see it in your eyes, and the way you'd say 'mm-hmm,’ and pause with head cocked, digesting information so thoughtfully. And, how I witnessed you as this beacon for all those around you.
And your taste. Man oh man, your incredible, discerning, impeccable taste, whether mainstream or esoteric, funny or dark, philosophical or frivolous.
I can’t tell you how often I’ve wondered how you’d approach a tricky situation. WHAT WOULD BEN HUGHES DO? And, I’m certain you’ll be this touchstone for a lifetime, reminding me how to be, of and with grace.
I don’t remember how it started, but I always called you Sir Ben. Feels fitting, my friend.
I will be your forever Fangirl.
